"Manon" is a work that inspired me to explore the complexity of human ambitions and conflicting desires. In the painting, I wanted to capture the essence of the protagonist, thirsty for money and social ambition, which leads her to make questionable choices in the name of success and financial security.
The small table, in the center of the composition, represents the core of her clandestine actions, where she hides the jewels stolen by her husband. The petals falling on the coffee table symbolize the fragility and ephemerality of her apparent happiness, while the decadent brown color evokes the pain and sense of loss surrounding her. Under the coffee table, I painted a pond of water, symbolizing the imprisonment and oppression Manon must face. It is here that she ultimately finds her tragic end, drowned in her own desire and wrong choices. Brown, in this context, represents a pain now overcome, a shadow of the past dissolving in the water, a symbol of rebirth and liberation. With this painting, I wanted to explore the depths of the human psyche and reflect on the fragility of material ambitions compared to the true values of life.
